Enhance Sino-US Exchange and Cooperation in Basic Education and Make Education Open Wider to the Outside World in the New Era

      On Sep. 27th 2020, Jing Xiaomin, Vice-principal of the High School Attached to NWNU, attended the training session for principals of famous schools involved in Sino-US “1000 Schools Hands Together” program, which was held in Beijing by China Education Association for International Exchange.
      Xu Yongji, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education and Bettina Malone, Minister-Counselor of Public Affairs Office, the US Embassy in Beijing addressed the session respectively.
      Shen Xuesong, Deputy Secretary General of China Education Association for International Exchange also participated in the training session, which was presided over by Fu Bo, Director of International Cooperation Division of China Education for International Exchange. Yuan Ming, Dean of Yenching Academy of Peking University along with her teaching management team delivered a keynote speech with the theme of “facing the reality, absorbing foreign elements and looking into the future”, introducing the history and status quo of cultural exchanges between China and the USA and sharing their efforts and results made by Yenching Academy in cross-cultural communication and talents training as well as their thoughts about education internalization against the background of global upheaval. She hoped that cultural exchanges could be characterized with senses of history, contemporaneity and future through the joint efforts. Professor Jiang Yingmin from Institute of International and Comparative Education of Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University also made a speech titled “Theories and Practice on Education for International Understanding in China”, sharing her opinions about education for international understanding by answering three questions related to “why”, “what” and “how”.
      With the advent of the new century, the High School Attached to NWNU has attached great importance to international exchanges and cooperation in education, promoting the modernized and high-quality development of the school driven by educational internalization and several in-depth communication and cooperation programs with sister schools in “1000 Schools Hands Together” have been carried out in such aspects as international education, environmental education, exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries and inter-school visits. Besides, the school has achieved fruitful results by actively engaging in activities like the “China-France 100 Schools” Pairing Event, Math Communication between China and France, Exchanges Program of 100 Schools in China and in Britain and “One Belt and One Road” Forum for Primary and Secondary School Principals.

      The Sino-US “1000 Schools Hands Together” Program is the Joint outcome of the fifth round of the China-US High-level Consultation on Cultural Exchanges, which was officially initiated by Vice Premier Liu Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Beijing in July 2014. The program intends to select 1000 primary or secondary schools in China and in the USA who are dedicated to carrying out Sino-US cultural exchanges continuously to be participated in jointly, with the theme of “1000 Schools Hands Together: Loving Nature and Green Living”. It encourages schools in both countries to conduct relevant activities such as exchange visits of teachers and students, academic communication and environmental protection on their own initiative, calls on young students in China and in America to enhance mutual communication as well as to increase awareness of environmental protection. At present, 824 primary or secondary schools in China are involved in the program, of which 12 are located in Gansu province. The High School Attached to NWNU, as one of the first 78 selected schools for Sino-US “1000 Schools Hands Together” Program, is the only selected school in Gansu province in the first 31 demonstration schools.
