2016 Summer Camp in Britain: Embracing Nature, Experiencing Culture, Teamwork and Individuality

From Jun. 30 to Jul. 14, 2016, led by their teacher Wang Wei, 38 students of our school went to Britain for the Summer Study Tour Camp. Themed Embracing Nature, Experiencing Culture, Teamwork and Individuality, the camp provided activities of visiting scenic and historical spots, language learning, experiencing culture of the school where the camp was located. Our students and teacher spent an unforgettable and meaningful period of time.
The camp activities were held in King Edward's School. Students learned a lot from the various activities designed by King Edward's School. For example, they combined the scientific elements, movie stories and the idea of environmental protection in the activity of Innovative Clothing Design, learned about the features of Scottish English in An Introduction to Scotland, communicated face to face and interacted with each other actively in Quiz on knowledge about British Culture, in which our students competed and cooperated with European and American students, and experienced English passion for exercise in Outdoors Sports Competition...

Besides, our students and teacher also visited many scenic spots accompanied by a guide. They overlooked central London on Millennium Wheel and visited picturesque scenery along River Thames, Palace of Westminster, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, all of which showed the long history and splendid culture of the country. In Trafalgar Square and The National Gallery, they saw the today and yesterday of London, enjoying a great cultural feast. The solemnity and magnificence of St.Paul's Cathedral told the students another story of Britain; Tour of World Civilizations in British Museum enabled the students to experience space and time traversing and think deeply about the origin and evolving of every civilization. The students also visited University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. Following the steps of Hsu Chih-mo, they “seeking dream” with him and “sing aloud in the splendour of starlight”. Under Newton’s “apple tree”, they hoped that they could also be inspired and enlightened by an apple...
