The Affiliated High School of Northwest Normal University Successfully Hosts the 68thAmerican Mathematical Competition (AMC)

On February 16th, 2017, some 100 students from grade one and grade two participated in the 68thAmerican Mathematical Competition (AMC). Students of grade one and grade two attended the AMC10 and AMC12exams respectively. The whole competition was well organized with the cooperation of responsible invigilators and those earnest competitors.
AMCis the abbreviation of American Mathematical Competition hosted by Mathematical Association of America. The Head Examination Board of AMC, consisted of experts from the famous College of mathematics in University of Nebraska–Lincoln and experts from some top universities in America such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), Harvard University and PrincetonUniversity, is fully responsible for the research, development and setting of examination questions as well as the unified inspection of the papers. Every year, there are over 300 thousand people registering for the examination only in the regions of North America, therefore AMC is a mathematical examination with the highest credibility all over the world. There are over 3 thousand schools in dozens of countries and regions which host the examination with America simultaneously in the world, including China, Canada, Britain, France, Singapore, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Chile, Switzerland, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Japan, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Nowadays, the AMC has become an effective approach for selecting top talents of mathematics in America. Besides, the results of the examination are also the references for many top schools to assess the performance in mathematics of the applicants. Owing to the fact that the AMC is internationally accepted, thus, to participate in the examination in different part of the world has become an important approach for students to gain experiences in international competition, to enhance their international learning ability and raise competition background and admissions competitiveness.
Those who rank the top 5 percent of the AMC12 will be permitted to participate in AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination). Over the course of these years, many students in our school have been permitted to take part in AIME. The results of AIME will be announced between the end of January and the beginning of March every year and we hope the students who participated in the examination will have ideal results.
