Our Representatives Attended the Seminar on Enrollment of Key High Schools in Mainland of China Held in Hong Kong

         From December 4th to 5th 2017, the Seminar on Enrollment of Key High Schools in Mainland of China jointly organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong was held in Hong Kong and our vice-principal, Jing Xiaomin, attended the seminar on behalf of our school. At the welcoming ceremony, Vice-principal Jing addressed the meeting on behalf of over thirty key high schools from fourteen provinces of mainland of China as well as introduced to all the attendees the history of the High School Attached to NWNU and its achievements in various aspects including expanding exchanges, running the school openly, education internationalization, the cultivation of outstanding students and exchanges with universities in Hong Kong, putting forward some suggestions on these two universities’ plans and forms of enrollment in mainland of China.

       When the meeting ended, Vice-principal Jing on behalf of the delegation group accepted the souvenir given by the City University of Hong Kong. During the meeting, he also had a deep communication with Doctor Cheng Xing, Associate Vice-President of the City University of Hong Kong on issues like enhancing further exchanges between the two schools and lectures given by professors. Talks on enrollment plans, exchanges were also carried out with Professor Wang Shuying, Associate Vice-President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During his visit in Hong Kong, Vice-principal Jing met with our school’s alumni studying in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong and exchanged views cordially with them.

         In choosing “博文约礼” or “Through learning and temperance to virtue” as its motto and as a top university in Hong Kong or even in Asia as well as the main position in contemporary Neo-Confucianism, the Chinese University of Hong Kong has obtained remarkable achievements in scientific research, internationalization and student cultivation, ranking 46th in QS World University Rankings. During the visit in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Vice-President Huo Taihui made a welcoming remark and Wu Huiming, Director of I-CARE Center for Whole-Person Development emphatically introduced the I-CARE programme. Besides, its Associate Vice-President, Professor Wang Shuying introduced in detail the university’s undergraduate enrollment plan for mainland students, the cultivation situation of mainland students, diversified ways of running a school, curriculum and teaching, honors, academics, and other school-running characteristics like college system, bi-linguistic teaching and international exchanges and recognition. Deans of several faculties of the university, including Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Social Science, made introductions to teachers, curriculum, student cultivation and features. The delegates also visited the university’s New Asia College, United College, S.H. Ho College, C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College, bio-medicine building, library, College of Law and College of Engineering.

The Library of the Chinese University of Hong Kong
        By taking “pursuing excellence, promoting innovation and nurturing creativity for the society and the world” as its goal, the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a well-known university with excellent teachers admired and longed for by high school students, ranking 49th in QS World University Rankings. Its vice-president Lv Jian also made a welcoming speech and introduced the university from four aspects including the outstanding research and teaching teams, excellent teaching results, leading technology transfer and eminent students with great innovation. Zhang Zongming, Sub-inspector of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R, delivered a speech. Information about the research features, predominant disciplines, international exchanges, student cultivation and teachers development were also introduced by relevant leaders from many colleges or schools of the university, such as School of Creative Media,  College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, School of Energy and Environment and School of Law. Presided by Cheng Xing, the Associate Vice-President of CityU, the question-and-answer session among admissions officers of CityU, enrolled students and principals of high schools presented in a comprehensive way many detailed issues cared by students such as living fees, personal relationships and cross-cultural communication. Later, the delegates visited CityU’s main campus, students’ dormitories and RUN RUN SHAW Creative Media Centre.

        For many years, numbers of students from the High School Attached to NWNU have been admitted by many famous universities in Hong Kong, such as University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Baptist University, making our school become the major source of recruitment for these well-known universities in Hong Kong. Only during the five years from 2013 to 2017, 15 students have been admitted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong while 6 by the City University of Hong Kong.
