The Second “Lilac Cup” Debate Contest for High School Students was Held Successfully in the High School Attached to NWNU

      The second “Lilac Cup” debate contest for high school students was held in the High School Attached to NWNU on June 30th. Liu Guocai, the Secretary of the Party Committee and also the Vice-principal of the High School Attached to NWNU addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the school. Four teams respectively from Ningxia Yinchuan Yizhong, Qing Hai Huang Chuan Senior High School, Xi’an Gaoxin No.1 High School and the High School Attached to NWNU have taken part in the contest.

      The debaters all performed quite well in the three rounds of competition. Their clear ways of thinking, quotations of classics and sparkling words involved in argumentation, refutation and rebutment make the atmosphere heat up quickly. In the free debate, the debaters of both sides expressed their arguments with their witty repartee, putting the tense atmosphere to a climax. Five experts from Northwest Normal University, Gansu Political Science And Law Institute and Lanzhou City University gave extraordinary remarks on the contest, thoroughly praising all the debaters for their excellent performance as well as putting forward some valuable suggestions.

      After the two-day competition, the champion went to Qing Hai Huang Chuan Senior High School and the runner-up was Xi’an Gaoxin No.1 High School, followed by the High School Attached to NWNU and Ningxia Yinchuan Yizhong. Just as Zhou Aizu, the Vice-secretary of the Party Committee, said in his closing remarks: “The debate contest is an important form of practical teaching, an effective way of practicing the education concept of the unity of knowledge and action and realizing the education goal of strengthening moral education and cultivating people.” The four school are all located in the northwest of China sharing several education problems together and the pursuit of excellence is their common ideal. With the joint efforts and cooperation of the four schools, it is hoped that the “Lilac Cup” debate contest can be of much more value and the influence of the community with common education aims can become larger and larger.
