The NHSDLC 2019 Lanzhou Regional Debate Tournament Held in the High School Attached to NWNU

      From Nov. 16th to 17th, the 2019-2020 Lanzhou Regional Debate Tournament of National High School Debate League of China was held in the High School Attached to NWNU, with more than a hundred of students from over 10 high schools in various regions including Beijing, Shenzhen, Xi’an, Chengdu, Guiyang, Yinchuan and Lanzhou participating in the competitions on the levels of senior middle schools and junior middle schools respectively.
      At 8:00 A.M. of Nov. 16, the opening ceremony kicked off at the International Conference Center of the High School Attached to NWNU with Jing Xiaomin, Vice-principal of the High School Attached to NWNU and Sun Liang, Director of the International Department of the high school attended. Mr. Jing addressed the ceremony on behalf of the high school, expressing his gratitude to the organizing committee of NHSDLC 2019 Lanzhou Regional Debate Tournament for their help and support. He emphasized the great significance of debate for high school students, hoping that all the contestants could learn from each other to make common progress through competitions by fully displaying their strengths.

An Academic Instructor Explained Tournament Rules on the Opening Ceremony
 
      After the two-day fierce competition, the championship of the tournament for senior middle school students was won by two students named Wei Linwan and Di Jiaxuan from Dulwich College Beijing and the second place went to Chen Kaiyang and Xu Danyi from Shenzhen Middle School. As for the tournament for junior middle school students, two students named Li Yuhan and Dai Qintong from Beijing World Youth Academy achieved the first place and another two students named Shi Ruohan and Tang Beini from Shenzhen Academy of International Education won the second place. Among the 20 contestants of the High School Attached to NWNU, one group including two students (Li Mai and Chen Shaoyu from Senior One Yingcai Class) reached the top 16 and another group with another two students (Ma Ruiyi from Senior Two YIngcai Calss and Wei Han from Senior Two Beichen Class) included was in the top 8. The high school was awarded “the Second Prize School” by the organizing committee.

Moments of the Tournament
      At 14:40 P.M. on Nov. 17th, the final and the closing ceremony were held at the International Conference Center of the High School Attached to NWNU. Sun Liang, Director of the International Department attended the closing ceremony and awarded prizes to the winners.

      Since its establishment in 2011, the NHSDLC has attracted more than 300 well-known schools from over 30 cities across the country each year to join the event, which has been the largest foreign language debate league for high school students in China so far. It is the third time for the high school to hold the event. The debaters from the High School Attached to NWNU made a good preparation for the competition by looking through a great deal of data under the guidance of their teachers and debate society leaders. Through fierce competition, their debating abilities have been greatly improved with a full display of their critical thinking skills and adequate command of English.
