Mr. Bruce, Guidance Counselor Studying Abroad from the High School Attached to Tsinghua University, Visited Our School

On Jan. 9th, 2015, Bruce Hammond, a well-known expert in studying abroad from Ladd city in Virginia in United States, who has been engaging in education counseling for a long time, was invited to make a report for students from International Department and to help train the Overseas University Application team of International Service Center by the Education Service Center in the High School Attached to NWNU.
Graduated from Yale University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Politics and from Brown University in 1990 with a master’s degree in Education, Mr. Bruce has been the author and co-author of six books on university recruitment. Arriving in China in 2008, he was firstly director of international curriculum and guidance counselor of studying abroad in the international department of High School Affiliated to Nanjing Normal University and was engaged to be guidance counselor of studying abroad in the international department of the High School Attached to Tsinghua University. The High School Attached to NWNU and the High School Attached to Tsinghua University are both founders and member schools of the “Integrity Alliance of High Schools in China”. Mr. Bruce, person in charge from abroad, has been playing an important role in creating opportunities for leaders from high schools in China and universities abroad to communicate face to face, so as to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
Mr. Bruce visited our school and the International Department and had fruitful discussions with Principal Liu, persons in charge of the international department and international education service center and several teachers on topics like key points of overseas university application, teacher training, construction of a application team, curriculum for international students, to name a few. He thought highly of our achievements in teaching and international education. He made a report “academic planning and overseas university application plan and key points for students from international department” introducing systematically how students should make academic plans, how to choose proper courses and participate standardized examinations how to make application plan ahead of time and how to deal with other things concerning students in international department. He then answered questions asked by students with professional knowledge. Mr. Bruce conducted professional training for more than ten teachers and the staff from the overseas university application team in international education service center through detailed discussions and experience exchanges on such aspects as curriculum and activity planning, university and major choosing, application documents and online operations. He offered effective advice on the design and making details of such materials as School Profile, School Report, GPA transcript, ranking identification of four point --scale GPA and so on provided by our school.
