The competition is sponsored by the magazine titled Vision and supported by Bank of Gansu and many other units, which is a competition for public welfare and open to high school students nationwide to collect outstanding writings. It is required in the contest that the writing should be finished in Chinese with 800 to 3000 Chinese characters based on one of the three topics provided by the organizers. On Apr. 23, the contest was launched simultaneously in Lanzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Xi'an by taking the World Reading Day as an opportunity. Up to Oct. 18, 31022 valid manuscripts had been received nationwide. After being screened by the prize-giving committee at different levels, 11 manuscripts were finally confirmed to enter the final online poll section.

Eventually, after a comprehensive evaluation consisting of screening at different layers, online poll and specialist-evaluation, ten students received the first prize with a 10,000 RMB bonus per person, such as Chen Zhaoyu, Man Runyuan and Zhou Jingqian; 30 students won the second prize with a 3,000 RMB bonus per person and certificates, including Zhao Ruijia, Huo Jiayu and Qiu Zixia; 200 students such as Zhang Shuyang, Yi Xinyue and Huang Liwen received the third prize and each of them was awarded with the Vision all the year around and a special issue for the writing competition as well as a certificate.

It has been understood that the 11 manuscripts passing into the final round after being reviewed by the public and awarding committee of the competition can be considered excellent. However, under the influence of current popular writing styles, the styles in the competition tend to be homogeneous and metaphysical in general, which makes it impossible to select a particularly prominent article as a benchmark for high school students’ writing. The contest adheres to the principle of putting quality before quantity, so if the grand prize loses its significance of being a benchmark for students, it is not beneficial to the improvement of reading and writing skills of the majority of high school students. Therefore, the grand prize, the highest prize in the competition is vacant.

Reading China from the cultural perspective and never forget the first heart, forge ahead. At the award ceremony, the organizing committee of the contest announced that next year will also witness the launching of Vision: National Writing Competition (In Chinese) for High School Students.
