Heavyweight: High-performance lubrication technology assists the construction of great power--2021 “Belt and Road” Keynote Report of International Forum for Primary and Secondary School Principals

On July 20, 2021, the “2021 Belt and Road International Forum for Primary and Secondary School Principals and The School Exchange Meeting of the ‘100 Good Schools’ Project”, sponsored by Gansu Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (GPAFFC), The Education Department of Gansu Province and Gansu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and undertaken by The High School Attached to Northwest Normal University, was held in the conference center of the High School Attached to Northwest Normal University. Liu Weimin, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials and academician of The World Academy of Sciences, made a keynote report entitled “High-performance lubrication technology assists the construction of great power”.

  From the concepts of “science” and “technology”, through reviewing the five scientific and technical revolution in the history, Mr. Liu pointed out the importance of the development of science and technology for China to rank to the innovative country. Firstly, he listed the frictions and lubrication in our daily life and then discussed with participants from the following six aspects, respectively the effect of lubricant, the importance of lubricating grease study, aerospace lubricating materials, high-end equipment lubricating grease, rail transportation lubricating materials and the mission of lubrication science and technology workers.
  Mr. Liu also talked about the role as well as the defects of different types of lubricants, pointed out that the dependence to lubricating grease is relatively large in basic manufacturing, rail transportation, new energy, marine equipment and even the aerospace lubrication material technology, but the research on this aspect is still lacking and needs to be further strengthened.
  He focused on the importance and application of aerospace lubricating materials, high-end equipment lubricating grease, and rail transportation lubricating materials, discussed that in the aspect of aerospace materials, different systems like steering system, transmission system, rotor system, landing gear, rudder, connectors, etc. have different needs for lubricating materials. In terms of high-end equipment lubricating grease, China has made research-based achievements in high-performance and long-life series lubricants for large wind turbines. With the rise of China’s labor cost, due to the decline of labor supply and the need for industrial upgrading, industrial robots have become an important choice for China’s manufacturing industry to replace manual labor, and the demand for special oil for robots has increased sharply, and China’s research work in this area has already started.

“Each age has its own problems and each generation has its own mission”. Mr. Liu emphasized that all lubrication technology workers should be committed to “the unify of national demand and academic pursuit” as their value, act on the cultural concept that “be industrious, realistic and pragmatic, innovative and dedicated”, maintain a research team of lubrication materials and technology possesses strong innovation and ability of development and application, build an advanced international lubrication science and research platform in order to be a significant science and technology research center that leads to the development of global material tribology and lubrication subject.
