On March 20th, 2015, the Harvard University: National Key High School Principals Forum was held at Harvard Center (Shanghai) in the Shanghai International Financial Center of HSBC Building, which was attended by 40 key high school principals around the country. Principal Liu Xinsheng, as the principal of the only invited school in Gansu Province, attended the forum. Leah Rosovsky, Vice-President of Harvard University, Professor Bill Kirby, Chairman of the Harvard China Fund and Wang Yi, Director of Harvard Center (Shanghai) also attended the forum and had communications with the present principals.

Vice-President Leah Rosovsky, Professor Bill Kirby as well as three interviewers of Harvard in China made some explanations to the participants about the enrollment of Harvard in mainland China, the admission procedure and some basic information of interview. Just like other world famous universities in the U.S., the Harvard University has no fixed mode or standard for admitting applicants. Instead, Harvard stresses that the applicants should be caring, enthusiastic, confident and ambitious with strong sense of responsibility and comprehensive and all-round qualities. Besides, these students should have a deep interest in their own majors and can express their unique opinions.

On the meeting, the principals had a deep communication and discussion with each other on such issues like the future development of education, Sino-foreign cooperation in education, multi-national education, application for studying abroad and online international courses with a combination of the current situation of high school education as well as the present development trend of basic education reform in China. Hot discussions have been carried out among the participants on the concept of developing “global citizen” in the future education. All have been agreed that developing “global citizens”, who have the cultural confidence, courage and critical thinking with international vision and deep love for wonderful things, should be an important educational goal for schools under the current situation of the internationalization of education.

During the meeting, the High School Attached to NWNU has reached the cooperation intention with Harvard University on such aspects including students exchange program, utilization of online courses and others. The specific contents include the application of outstanding students to Harvard with a recommend letter by the principal, attending the HSYLC by our students, Harvard exchange students program, Harvard Scholar Prize, the use of Harvard online educational platform and so on.

Based on the concept of developing international personnel with “scientific spirit, humanistic quality, Chinese mood and international vision”, the High School Attached to NWNU is the first to put forward and to practice the Chinese and western integrated curriculum system as well as the diversified education and teaching mode against the background of internationalization of basic education in China, keeping on developing the students’ understanding capacity from an international perspective and cross-cultural ability so that they can become an outstanding global citizen. The further and deep cooperation with Harvard will further improve the international education development of our school, making its due contribution to the internationalization of education in western regions.

Harvard Center (Shanghai) is located at the heart of Pudong Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone, which is the largest among the other six overseas research center set up by Harvard.
